Museum on the Move Climate Change exhibition 2008

Museum on the Move 2008 - Climate Change

Museum on the Move will be touring in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin from:

12 August - 10 October 2008

This is a new interactive, multi sensory exhibition which looks at Climate Change in the past, present and future, asking the questions:

  • what is Climate Change?
  • why does Climate Change matter?
  • what can we do about it?

Using specimens and artefacts from the museum collections, the exhibition explores climatic changes from the Silurian period 425 million years ago to the Little Ice Age, just 300 years ago.

Climate change has the potential to affect us all. The Gambia is one of ten countries in the world most vulnerable to rising sea level. Visitors can explore the rice cultural and social heritage of this small country in West Africa currently threatened by climate change.

Because climate change is happening all over the world, it means we are all in it together. The exhibition suggests simple changes we can all make to help reduce the amount of energy we use.

The exhibition is accompanied by two experienced Museum Interpreters and is designed to appeal to all ages. For school visits there are curriculum links to subject areas for all key stages and the exhibition is suitable for pupils with special educational needs. Two handling boxes are available for use in the classroom or venue.

The cost of each visit is heavily subsidised by Renaissance, West Midlands. A charge of £95 is made per day visit.

Museum on the Move is aimed at bringing imaginative and stimulating displays to isolated rural areas. It provides a community based museum service that improves access to museums and helps to promote lasting relationships between local communities and their museums.

All staff are trained to drive the vehicle and to interpret the exhibition on board. We can visit schools and training centres, day centres and sheltered housing schemes, village centres, hospitals, youth centres, shopping centres and special events.

Please phone Justeen Stone on 01584 813665 to book a visit together with a selection of dates that suit you. We will then put the tour together and send you a dated booking form with accompanying material.
